How to create an assignment using the CodeSubmit Library

Creating an assignment using the CodeSubmit Library can be accomplished in as little as 30 seconds. If you have a bit more time, you can easily customize the assignment to fit your team's individual needs. Let's get started!

First, head to the Library tab.

The CodeSubmit Library includes two types of interviews: our original Take-Home Challenges and Screening Bytes.

  • Take-Home Challenges are short coding projects designed to resemble the real programming work your candidates will face on the job. They're completely customizable to mimic your team's tech stack so that you can evaluate the skills most relevant to your team.
  • Bytes are short coding problems that require candidates to write code against predefined tests. Bytes are scored and evaluated automatically after each submission and are great for effectively screening candidates.

Once you've decided which type of interview you're going to use, the next step is to choose your assignment's language. If you go with a Take-Home Challenge, you'll also have the option to choose a framework. We support a lot of them! Once you've made your decisions, it's time to choose the assignment.

Scroll down to view the available assignments.

You can click View Details to view the brief, tasks, evaluation criteria, and a recommended time limit for a given assignment. If you like what you see, then click Select Assignment.

The final step is to give your assignment a name and role. For Challenges, we typically name our assignments after the framework (e.g. React – Wookie Movies) to easily tell them apart later. Another option is to name the assignment after the role you're using it for (e.g. DevOps Engineer II).

And that's it! The assignment will now show up in your Assignments tab. Now all that's left is to start inviting candidates.
